About Husky Training Group

Hello, My name is Joseph O’Connor (Joey) - Owner & Trainer

My first experience with First Aid was at just nine years old, through the St John Ambulance youth Program. Learning these vital skills early in life shaped my perspective, and later, after spending four years in the ambulance service, I saw firsthand how preparedness can make a difference—whether in minor injuries or life-threatening emergencies.

I realized that First Aid is not just about medical intervention—it’s also about reassurance, communication, and kindness. Sometimes, simply holding a hand or offering calm words can be just as important as stopping a bleed.

Over 16 years of training in both advanced and basic First Aid, I noticed three major gaps in the industry:

  1. Lack of trainers with real-world experience – Without hands-on experience, it’s hard to answer critical, real-life questions in the classroom.

  2. Inconsistent student experience – First Aid refreshers often feel like a chore, with courses being either too long, too short, or lacking engagement.

  3. Poor student support – Many courses fail to support learners both in and out of the classroom.

I started Husky Training Group to fill these gaps, ensuring every student—whether a healthcare professional, workplace team member, or a parent—walks away confident in their ability to respond in an emergency.

The Husky Training Difference?

I believe learning First Aid should be practical, fun, and memorable.

I keep my classes interactive and engaging by sharing real-life emergency response stories from my experience in the field. These stories open students’ eyes to what really happens in an accident or emergency, making training more relatable and impactful.

And let’s be honest—nobody wants to sit through a dull class. My goal is to keep everyone engaged, whether you’re a corporate professional, school student, or first-time learner.
