What is this course about?
The HLTAID011 Provide First Aid course is a nationally recognised training program designed to equip participants with the essential skills to manage a range of medical emergencies. This course is ideal for workplaces, community members, and individuals who want to be prepared to respond to first aid situations confidently. Covering CPR, wound care, fractures, allergic reactions, and more, this training provides practical, hands-on experience to help save lives. Available in Newcastle, the Hunter Valley, and the Central and Mid North Coast of NSW, this course is easily accessible for participants across the region.
Units Delivered
Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for the following units:
HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid
HLTAID010 – Provide Basic Emergency Life Support
HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
Course Duration
Course durations may vary, but the minimum required times are:
Face-to-Face: At least 7 hours 30 minutes of in-person training
Online + Face-to-Face Assessment: Online coursework with at least 1 hour of in-person assessment
Entry Requirements
To ensure participants can complete the practical components of the course, the following requirements apply:
Must have the physical ability to perform 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor
Must be able to perform rescue breathing techniques on manikins
For online study: Access to a computer, smartphone, or tablet with an internet connection is required
Certificate Renewal
This certification has an industry-recommended renewal period of 36 months, ensuring participants stay up to date with current first aid practices.
Assessment Activities
To achieve competency, students must complete:
Performance Tasks & Practical Scenarios:
Perform CPR on an adult, including using an AED and placing a casualty into the recovery position
Complete a first aid incident report based on a simulated first aid scenario
Perform CPR on an infant
Manage a casualty with anaphylaxis
Manage a casualty with asthma
Manage a choking casualty
Treat a casualty with non-life-threatening bleeding and shock, requiring minor wound cleaning
Manage a casualty with a nosebleed
Manage a casualty with a fracture and dislocation
Manage a casualty with a sprain and strain
Treat a casualty with envenomation (e.g., snake or funnel-web spider bite)
Theory Assessment:
A written multiple-choice exam to assess theoretical knowledge
